I feel so incredibly honored to get to bring you this post! I could hardly believe it when I was chosen as a Cookbook Ambassador for my all-time favorite food blog, 100DaysofRealFood.com. And now I get the opportunity to share with you one of the greatest cookbooks I’ve ever owned! This is not just any review. I’m so excited to get to share with you something I’m passionate about and something that’s changed the life of my family.
Lisa Leake, of 100DaysofRealFood.com, has just released her first cookbook, 100 Days of Real Food: How We Did It, What We Learned, and 100 Easy, Wholesome Recipes Your Family Will Love. Like her blog, this cookbook explains how important it is to know what’s in our food and get back to real foods in our processed foods society. Plus this cookbook is full of some of the best recipes you’ll ever try. The pictures and everyday ingredients will have you excited to hit the kitchen and cook up something your body will thank you for!
How 100DaysofRealFood.com Has Changed My Life…
Two years ago, I came across her blog and started reading what she had to say about real food. It was the first time that I stopped to think about what I am eating and feeding my family. When I’d buy a frozen pizza or box of cereal, what ingredients were actually in it? Could I even read all of the ingredients in the label? Where did those ingredients come from? I realized quickly that my answer to these questions was, “I have no idea!” I soon realized we were eating chemicals and modified foods each day without evening thinking about it. The foods were far from their original state and not at all what was my body was intended to consume.
Over the course of a few months, I began to buy more whole, real foods and fewer packaged items. With the help of her blog, I learned how to buy these items on a budget too. I tried to start buying organic produce, dairy and meat when possible. I choose whole wheat and grains over white varieties of flours, pasta and rice. I used real sweeteners like maple syrup & honey instead of white sugar or sugar substitutes. I started educating my kids (and husband!) on what is actually in our foods. Slowly, our habits have changed (although they’re still far from perfect) and as a family and we have seen many health improvements. We get fewer colds, get over sicknesses more quickly and definitely feel better everyday. We’re not 100% perfect all the time, but try our best to have good choices around the house. And let me tell you… our bodies certainly let us know when we’ve slipped up!
Real Foods in the World of Coupons…
As a couponer, switching to real foods was a tough transition for me. I was used to buying food items because they were cheap & free. I had to change my thinking and stop buying many of those deals. Just because they were cheap doesn’t mean they were something I wanted to feed my family. (Sometimes I do still buy them items though and donate them to my local food bank.) I decided to begin only couponing for household and personal care items. By saving tons of money in these areas, it allows me to have more money in my food budget to buy real food items which can cost more than I was used to spending on groceries. My Kids’ Review of Cinnamon Raisin Quick Bread…
As I mentioned, I’ve loved making Lisa’s recipes for a couple years now so I was so excited to hear that Lisa was releasing a cookbook! Her recipes on her blog are easy and delicious and I was hoping I’d see even more recipes in her cookbook that I hadn’t had the chance to try. To my surprise… it’s full of new recipes! A few days ago, I tried my first recipe out of the cookbook for my family: Cinnamon Raisin Quick Bread. It was so easy that I even cooked it while our dinner was cooking! My kids were so excited (they love it when I bake!) and requested some of the bread for dessert that night! The little recipe reviewers in my house gave it two thumbs up and even requested it again for breakfast the next morning!
