Today is a big day for us. My baby… my first-born… you are graduating 6th grade and will go to bed tonight as a junior high-er! I really don’t know how it’s possible that 7 years of elementary school have flashed by in an instant. But it’s here and I’m ready! I’m emotional knowing that we’re half way through your years of school, but so excited for your future and all that is to come for you.
It feels like yesterday that we were celebrating your graduation from Kindergarten. I still remember how excited you were to dress up in a pretty fancy black and white dress and have me braid your hair. You look precious and sang your heart out during the class performance. The whole family came to watch you and we were so proud! I couldn’t be more proud of the lady you’ve become these past 7 years.
You are a beautiful dancer. Your love for dance has continued since you were 2 years old. You’ve continued to improve every day and pour every ounce of energy you have into it. The commitment you’ve showed to your dance is inspiring and I’m proud of you for pushing through on your hardest days or when others get promoted to levels before you. You never give up and that shows amazing character.
You are a gifted student. Somehow, despite your hours of dance a week and time with our family, you still manage to bring home amazing grades. You are so incredibly smart, organized and a hard thinker. I’ll always be here to ease your frustrations but don’t ever doubt yourself. You can do anything you put your mind to. I can’t wait to see you make some plans for college and see you find new talents throughout your junior and high school years.
You are a wonderful sister. It’s so hard, I know. I too was a big sister and little sisters can drive you up the wall. Keep practicing your patience and smother her with love and someday it’ll get easier. I promise. Someday, you will appreciate her and every moment you got to spend with her. God never promises us tomorrow, but we can live each day letting those we love know that we love them. Help her when you can, use kind words and someday it WILL be worth it! Thank you for always trying!
You are the most incredible daughter. I couldn’t ask for a better one! You are so beautiful, inside and out, and God has created you to look and be exactly what He planned. I am so blessed that you are my mini-me. Since the time you were a baby, everyone has always said how much we look alike and I love that each day you take on more and more of my traits. You may not like that all the time, but I do! I love that we wear nearly the same size clothes, have the same big feet, enjoy shopping at the same stores and I even love that you like to use bobby pins to pull your hair back just like me. You are my daughter first, but I love that we are friends. No matter what life throws at you, I’m here with a shoulder to cry on and ready to talk you through it all. The hormones, the boys, the drama. We got this, my little lady!
Today, as you leave elementary school and move on to junior high, enjoy each moment. I know it’s scary, but we’ll do it together. It’s the time of your life that you’ll remember as an adult and will be one of your best yet. Keep loving the Lord and living your life for Him! When you keep your heart right with Him and consider Him in all of your choices, the rest all falls into place. Daddy and I will always be here and love you no matter what we go through.
Happy Graduation Day, baby! I love you more than you will ever know!
